ONTARIO - The 17-year-old driver of an SUV involved in a double fatality hit and run crash in Mount Pleasant early Saturday has been charged with two counts of impaired driving causing death.
The youth, from Six Nations, cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Brant OPP announced the charges this morning. The youth, who appeared in Brantford court Monday, is in custody awaiting a bail hearing. The collision occurred early Saturday morning as a party in Mount Pleasant was breaking up and teens were arranging rides with designated drivers. An SUV heading west on Burtch Road collided with a group near one of the cars. Shawn McLaughlin 18, and his friend Ciaran Milmine, 17, were killed instantly. Two young women in the group were seriously injured.

OPP, who were already checking for impaired drivers near the large party, saw the collision and pursued and stopped the SUV about one kilometer away, arresting its driver. OPP constable Larry Plummer said today the driver was taken to Brantford city police for breath tests. The youth is also charged with two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm; two counts of exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood causing death and two charges of exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood causing bodily harm. He is further charged with failing to remain causing death and failing to remain causing bodily harm. No date has been announced for his next court appearance.
